Bodegas Val do Xuliana 2016 Rias Baixas Galicia
Complex and aromatic with fresh flavours and a dry long finish, This has good acid balance with flavours derived from lees ageing. A classic example of this increasingly popular wine.
Bodegas Val do Xuliana has 50 Ha under vine in the region of As Neves, on the slopes of the hills surrounding the town with the Rivers Minho, Termes and Xuliana as boundaries. 30 Ha are directly owned and 20Ha owned by growers. The Atlantic Gulf stream brings moderate wet weather in the winter, early frost free springs and dry summers from the Azores Anticyclones. Soils are granitic and sandy/ The vineyards are subject to Integrated management overseen by the Agronomist Francisco Arenas The vines are pruned to 8 buds per spur to reduce yields. All fruit is hand picked into small containers to minimise damage and oxidation. The wine is made using both traditional and modern techniques with temperature controlled fermentation at 18degrees and cold stabilisation. The wine spends a period of time on the lees to add complexity.
